Meet Stephan Hausheer - our member of the month in December!

Introduction round: Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Stephan Hausheer and I’m one of two founders of Gonçalves Hausheer Architects, a company focusing on architecture and urban design, working from Berlin and Zürich, where I’m originally from.

What made you come to Berlin?

I moved to Berlin, in autumn 2016 with my family. It’s a perfect place to raise a toddler. Just for myself, I like the opportunities Berlin has to offer, the cultural life, the parks and lakes.

What exactly do you do? What's in the pipeline for the near future?

The typ of work varies very much, mainly because of the different kind of scales, clients, budgets, timeframes and stages. There is for example the new Spielplatz for the Kita of my daughter in Berlin Mitte, where we work almost exclusively with material, which we can get for free and the different skills the parents provide. My task there is to puzzle this all together and create a unity. All the ideas are together now and it’s scheduled to be built coming spring. Much different are things with the new center of a village in the floodplains of Swiss Rhine valley. A project, which is about the redesigning of the public space and the preservation, remodeling and extension of the urban structure. After an intense design process in the course of a competition, which we won this summer, we are now in a phase of strategic planning. In exchange with the different stakeholders we try to figure out the best way to put the project in action and set the milestones for the future.

Since when do you cowork at Office Club Berlin Prenzlauer Berg?

I started working here in March 2017.

What is the benefit of using a coworking space for you?

I like the atmosphere of the space, with all these different kind of people chasing their own project. It’s motivating and helps me to focus on my own things.

Which questions / problems could you help your coworking neighbour with?

If you think of reorganizing your kitchen, building a mountain cabin or discussing the city of the future, I’m glad to talk.

Do you have favourite spots in Berlin? Something to recommend / consider especially for people coming here?
There is a high density of old infrastructure, which was abandoned and got reclaimed by nature or was transformed and filled with a new, different life. I think, that’s quite unique for Berlin. I’m fascinated by the layering and interested to experience, what these places have to tell. Some of my favourites of these kind are the Park Schöneberger Südgelände or the Feuerle Collection. Foodwise I love Tommie’s or the Bird.

Thanks a lot and all the best to you!
