Meet Raimo - our member of the month in March!
Introduction round: Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Raimo and I'm working as a freelance software developer. Born in Kiel, I studied in Münster and moved to Berlin about two years ago. I quit my job three months ago so I can become a freelancer again, something I've written more about here in case you're curious.
What made you come to Berlin?
It somehow just happened. I got to know the Software Craftsmanship Community in Berlin a year before and quickly decided to move to Berlin after that. I was working remote for a company in Frankfurt (vaamo.de) anyway so moving luckily wasn't an issue for them.
What exactly do you do? What's in the pipeline for the near future?
I develop front- and backend applications (JavaScript & Scala) for companies and in my sparetime I'm organizing the Software Craftsmanship Meetup and other communities around the world. Furthermore, I'm providing coachings and trainings for software developers and companies to help them develop software in a professional and sustainable matter.
Since when do you cowork at Office Club Berlin Prenzlauer Berg?
It must've been spring 2015; I was visiting Berlin for a few days, I needed a place to work and found the Office Club. When I moved to Berlin a few months later, I started coming in regularly, usually about once a week.
What is the benefit of using a coworking space for you?
A coworking space always has been a place to focus on my work. I do most of my virtual meetings from home, so when I'm at the coworking space, I tend to focus on things like coding or writing, all things that warrant my full attention.
Which questions / problems could you help your coworking neighbour with?
I love showing people how easy it is to get started with programming. If you see me around and you're curious about programming, feel free to talk to me and I will gladly show you e.g. how websites get built and how you can get started to learn building apps on your own.
I also like to discuss software design and architecture, so if you want to talk about e.g. Domain-driven design (especially EventSourcing) over lunch, come find me :)
Do you have favourite spots in Berlin? Something to recommend / consider especially for people coming here?
