Meet Jennifer - our member of the month in January!

Introduction round: Who are you and where are you from?
I'm Jen and I'm from Puerto Rico via New York City and Tokyo.

What made you come to Berlin?
I always wanted to move here ever since I was a teenager. I ended up going to Tokyo for 10 years after grad school, but Berlin was still on my list and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to move here after commuting from Tokyo for a while.

What exactly do you do? What's in the pipeline for the near future?
I'm the Content Director at Lingvist. Lingivst is an app that uses machine learning and AI to help people learn languages faster and more efficiently. No two courses are alike because each one is personalised and tuned to what you know and don't yet know, to make sure you get the most useful knowledge for you first. We already offer English for German speakers, and we've got a German course for English speakers coming out soon, as well. I want people to know that learning a language isn't just about communicating with others — it's also an important way to learn about yourself, too. A large part of my job is to help people understand the science behind language learning, how our product uses this science to help them, and to motivate them to learn.

Since when do you cowork at Office Club Berlin Prenzlauer Berg?
I've been coworking here since September. At the moment, I'm the only Lingvist team member in Berlin — our main office is in Tallinn, Estonia — but I've colleagues all over the world from London to Tokyo, and even Hawaii.

What is the benefit of using a coworking space for you?
I live quite close to the space, but I don't want to work at home all the time. I like the idea of having a convenient, flexible space that's somewhere I can come in, plug in, do my work, and focus. I also like that everyone here works on all sorts of projects. That feeling of variety is very motivating because despite that we're all working individually, we're all also here for one common reason — to be productive. Sometimes our Chief Product Officer Scott, or our Business Developer Ave, come to town to work with me so it's great that Office Club makes it easy to accommodate them when they're here.

Which questions / problems could you help your coworking neighbour with?
I'm happy to talk with people if they want to know more about Lingvist, linguistics and language learning, Japan, Japanese language, translating, writing, content, and the psychologies of language and marketing.

Do you have favourite spots in Berlin? Something to recommend / consider especially for people coming here?
There are lots of great places just near or not too far from the coworking space, actually! I would suggest checking out Becketts Kopf bar (down the street from Office Club) for delicious literary-themed cocktails presented in creative glasses and cups. If you'd rather have a spa break than a cocktail, I suggest visiting Olivin spa near Senefelderplatz because it reminds me a little of some of the urban spas back in Tokyo.

Thanks a lot and all the best to you, Jennifer!
